Now a Scoutmaster myself, I’m often asking, “What would Graefe do?” As I teach new Scouts the art of building a campfire, I tell them that we are going to do this the Graefe way and start with the smallest of tinder. Still only takes one match to get the fire going! As a kid, I remember Mr. Graefe always paid a little extra attention to me on the annual Father & Son outings since my own father could not attend due to illness.

Mr. Graefe was, and will continue to be, an inspiration. When people ask why I devote so much time to Scouting, I tell them that there were good men devoting their time long ago and that I am just repaying a debt of gratitude. Mr. Graefe was one of those men.

You will be missed, but rest assured, your memory and cheerful service to others will continue to impact future generations.
